It's the two bookish ones for me: "American Fiction" and "American Splendor." I haven't seen the latter since it came out, but I remember it being wildly inventive. (Now I'm curious about rewatching it to see.)

And "Wet Hot American Summer" is top tier too. I haven't seen it in a long time either, but it likely still holds up (I mean, what a cast!).

As usual, we are pop culture twins! I loved loved loved American Fiction. Because it was set in the book world I was wary, but I thought it nailed both publishing and its moment perfectly. And Jeffrey Wright is a national treasure.

"American Splendor" is a gem! Paul Giamatti at his huffy, acerbic best!

I do love David Byrne's American Utopia, too. I watched it several times and still listen to the soundtrack. It's such an inspiring endeavor of creativity! And it made me obsessed with the song "Don't Worry About the Government," an ode to having a wonderful apartment that may solve all of your problems.

It's not my favourite, but there's a scene from American History X that continues to live in my head rent-free, 25+ years later.

Do you want to tell us what it is, or is it too triggering?

The way those two words sharply evoked that movie for me too, wow.

Ah, yes, I still remember it, too. And I think I only saw that film once!

I'll go old-school and say "An American in Paris." Gene Kelly's dancing makes me proud to be an American.

The FX series The Americans is a fantastic reflection of our values during 80's America as seen through the eyes of two Russian spies posing as an average American family.
