Iconic scene where Samantha is giving a talk after her cancer treatment and is sweating like crazy and finally pulls of her wig and tells it like it is. Probably helped so many women be honest about hot flashes. I think about "a woman's right to shoes" every time I end up at a house where the host makes people takes them off, and DOESN'T TELL YOU IN ADVANCE.

YES, that is so, so good. (Also makes me miss her.) That is exactly the kind of thing they could be doing on this series, given that they’re older and should have even more serious issues to deal with, and yet …

A writing room of older women could have made this show so funny and relatable about the complexities of aging as a woman in a world still dominated by male standards when it comes not just to employment, healthcare, gender roles etc etc. This could have been the show we needed...

Also, her grieving lasted about five minutes… but she was married for 20 years??? UGH

Ok, I decided to watch season three with the lowest of expectations. I knew I didn't have the capacity to think too deeply about it. I was there strictly for the fashion and decor. I'd had a procedure that left me in bed in a zombified state, and expectations were low. Even still, I was bored out of my mind. How did this happen??

That says a lot! I often find my attention wandering too. I think it's because SATC was so much about the friendships and how the women leaned on each other; AJLT makes you wonder why these women are friends. (And for the most part, the fashion is either super odd or snoozy.)

Yes, the constant calls among the friends break up the action while adding nothing. We need more parties like this week’s ep! (Why not, Carrie has a giant house with no furniture?)

I’m sorry this show could not provide you more comfort in your time of need! I similarly watched the first ep of season 3 on a bus in a traffic jam and genuinely found myself staring out the window at the traffic jam because it seemed more interesting.

I'm an Indigenous woman whose world is a long way from that of SATC, but I loved the original series. My favourite episode was Charlotte posing for the male artist who painted giant depictions of the vulva - Kristen aced that whole storyline, and the scene of them all walking round the final show was chef's kiss tasty.

Yes! Charlotte being so fully empowered, and her friends being so happy for her, was a delight.

I'm on season 6 of SATC and just watched most of these episodes! They're so good. Season 6 vastly improves on 4 and 5 by a wide margin. Why is it difficult to recapture this magic? Are the writers stumped on how to write 50+ yo women because they're so rarely seen and centered in American television and movies?

This is a good point. I also remember that Season 5 in particular was pretty rocky but Season 6 was much improved (the first half in particular had some of my favorite eps). The fact that we know how good this show can be is part of what makes this all so frustrating.

If I’m remembering right, season 5 was a mess of post-9/11 and SJP pregnancy, and it was not its best. But I would take even I Love a Charade ten times over any episode of AJLT …

Yes season 5 was weird, they all seemed very insecure and outta character in the first few episodes.
