This is such a beautiful essay, Kirthana, and my goodness how beautiful and powerful is this:
"As a writer—and really, as a woman—I’m often cataloging all the ways which I am deficient, and all the ways I can be better. But to hear the word “superpower” was the spark I needed to reframe what I’ve always thought of as one of my biggest weaknesses."
I love Andrew Garfield's idea that art allows us to access these emotions that we otherwise lock away. And we need to have those feelings sometimes, just in order to access our humanity!
Crying is a superpower! This is going to stick with me. :)
Right? She's so wise. Never thought of it that way, but its stuck with me ever since too.

Yes! It's such a beautiful way to think about art and what it gives us.
We need more Jonathan Groffs in the world!
Normalize crying! And men need to cry, if there’s any lesson to be learned from The Iron Claw.
So very true!
Beautiful piece, Kirthana! Brought me to tears reading it. :)
Aw, thank you! :)
