It all started with Timothée Chalamet.
The Dune actor launched seemingly a thousand celebrity lookalike contests after his fans held a competition to find his doppelganger in New York City last month. Shockingly, Chalamet crashed the event sporting a baseball hat (casual) and posed for joyful photos with his lookalikes. The winner: Miles Mitchell, a 21-year-old college student from Staten Island. The grand prize: $50.
Since that day, similar contests have popped up everywhere. San Francisco and Chicago respectfully crowned Dev Patel and Jeremy Allen White duplicates, Dublin discovered a Paul Mescal clone and London looked for the next best thing to Harry Styles.
“I am looking for my future husband,” Patel fan Samaria Pugh told the San Francisco Chronicle at the packed Dolores Park gathering. “He’s out there. … I’m staying till the very end till they start shutting down.”
(Alas, the victor, Jaipreet Hundal, is spoken for.)
These communal events offer a fun excuse to get outside and meet new people, and possibly, a new partner. They also allow fandoms to revel in joy, in person, en masse. Of course, drag shows have been doing that forever and mostly mimic female celebrities. It is interesting that male stars are the focus of this new trend, with scores of women as eager spectators. No one seems mad about it! Which begs the question: Who would YOU like to see as the subject of a celeb lookalike contest? Let us know and comment below!
I'll get some Gen X up in here and say ETHAN HAWKE, please.
I just saw that Glen Powell is getting the lookalike treatment: https://www.themarysue.com/the-glen-powell-lookalike-contest-is-finally-here-and-you-better-get-your-cowboy-hats-ready/
But I feel like a good lookalike contest needs someone with a more distinctive look! My vote is Daniel Craig, especially since a lookalike would have the option of trying to look like him as either Bond or as Benoit Blanc.
